001 - [VIDEO] - re-introductions

[The video feed turns on, and there's a young woman with blonde hair and blue eyes looking into the camera. She looks like a teenager, and she sort of is. She's wearing a very hopeful smile, and gives the camera a little wave.]

So...the Barge again. It's been a while.

[Her smile grows wider.]

I've been gone so long, there probably isn't anyone left who remembers me. My name's Laura. Laura Palmer. I was an inmate here, oh...it seems like forever ago, now! I didn't think I'd be coming back, but life is full of unexpected turns.

[She shrugs. She's rather perky today, mostly because she really wants to start out on the right foot. Her hope is nearly palpable.]

I'm a warden now, and I want to help out however I can. Who's in charge of the kitchen? Are there any shifts I can take over? I have experience in large-scale food preparation--I started the Meals-on-Wheels program in my town and I worked the dinner shift as an inmate. I'd be more than happy to sign on!

[Working in the kitchen is one of her fondest memories of her time here.]

If there's nothing free there, I can work in the library, I guess. Or maybe somewhere else. Let me know where I can volunteer!

[She loves volunteer work, guys. She always has.]

I always have. Meels-on-Wheels, special needs tutoring, English tutoring...it made me feel more at ease.

[Like her whole life wasn't about darkness and deception.]

All those times working the kitchen with Paddy and Miss Parker are my fondest memories of this place, I think.

I wish I could relate to that. I think the most fun I've had has been creating dishes in the kitchen, not working with people.

[She says nothing about her patience level. She'd gotten strung out on coke one day, watching over the mentally disabled Johnny, and had accidentally scared the poor guy to tears. Regretting it instantly, and not meaning to do it in the first place, hadn't erased it from happening.]

I like the cooking aspect, too. The whole gig has a nice atmosphere.

Yeah, if it has meaning for you I don't see why that'd be bad. [He smiles.] Paddy was a good guy...even if I gave him shit for a lot of reasons early on in my career here.

[He nods] There's a girl named Morgana who you ought to keep an eye on, also Seth Gecko.

[She considers the rest of his words.]

Are they violent? Is there a chance they'd tamper with the food?

What? No. [He shakes his head] No Morgana's just...she seems to have a tough time as an inmate and Seth's my inmate. If he tampers with food let me know.

Gotcha. I'll do what I can to help Morgana feel more welcome, and of course Seth. Are there any other inmates on breakfast?

[Hoffman, being a policeman has made a list. A list with notes. Detailed notes about teach inmate, the reluctant ones, the not so reluctant ones, the troublemakers. He holds them up for the camera.]

I'll drop these in the kitchen for you or we can meet and talk face to face but...there's not much to tell. Mostly inmates. Always short-staffed. pretty standard.
