[The video feed turns on, and there's a young woman with blonde hair and blue eyes looking into the camera. She looks like a teenager, and she sort of is. She's wearing a very hopeful smile, and gives the camera a little wave.]

So...the Barge again. It's been a while.

[Her smile grows wider.]

I've been gone so long, there probably isn't anyone left who remembers me. My name's Laura. Laura Palmer. I was an inmate here, oh...it seems like forever ago, now! I didn't think I'd be coming back, but life is full of unexpected turns.

[She shrugs. She's rather perky today, mostly because she really wants to start out on the right foot. Her hope is nearly palpable.]

I'm a warden now, and I want to help out however I can. Who's in charge of the kitchen? Are there any shifts I can take over? I have experience in large-scale food preparation--I started the Meals-on-Wheels program in my town and I worked the dinner shift as an inmate. I'd be more than happy to sign on!

[Working in the kitchen is one of her fondest memories of her time here.]

If there's nothing free there, I can work in the library, I guess. Or maybe somewhere else. Let me know where I can volunteer!

[She loves volunteer work, guys. She always has.]

Mm, I don't think so. I don't recall ever speaking to someone with that name.

Sometimes things get vague, though, after a while. It can be tough to separate the real memories from the fake ones.

Yeah, he probably left soon after me. He needed to see his daughter again.

[Fake memories, you say?]

Yeah, I know the feeling. Are you having some real trouble with them?

Makes sense. If I manage to graduate an inmate, I probably won't stay long afterwards.

[She shrugs vaguely.] I don't know. I mean, I know who I am, and what I will and won't do, but the emotions that go along with the personality changes? It can be tough to shake them sometimes.

I know what you mean. I'm not looking forward to dealing with it again, that's for sure.

There might be some compensating factors, but you'd think at least a few of these things would make us better for a few days. Not worse.

Some floods made me feel better when I was last here, but not many. Not enough to make up for the rest of them.

I can think of maybe one flood that was nice. And one port, not counting the one that Kirk took us to.

I turned into a cat once...that one wasn't bad. There were some very nice ports, too.

Arthur got turned into a cat once, too. He didn't like it. I thought it was pretty funny, though.

[She giggles.]

As far as floods go, the ones that turn us into animals are some of the most benign.

Right? Better than becoming a mass murderer or something.
